GLASS BOTTLE (Early Roman Period, various locations in Israel). "Mary took a pound of very costly perfune of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair" (John 12:3). Although Jesus was also anointed on the head with perfume from an alabaster jar (Matthew 26:7; Mark 14:3), the anointing of Jesus’ feet in the passage above may have involved perfume from a small glass jar like this one. In any case, glass perfume containers were modeled after alabaster jars of similar shape and size.
